Biography

Passionate + Unique + Soulful + Singer + Song-writer

I don’t confine myself to any genre. These are very restricting labels to say “Oh I am a pop singer” or “I am a blues guitarist”. Over the years I’ve experimented in so many genres that I truly don’t know what my label is, and for this reason, I choose not to confine myself to just one.

My style is from the soul, which is where I came up with the genre Soulingo, as to be my personal genre that is just an expression of my soul through music and expressing creativity.

This language of the soul is Soulingo.

My musical path started really before I was born. My dad has always been a musical enthusiast and is basically a classic rock encyclopedia. He would play records & music ever since I can remember. I remember playing with my dad’s little Hohner Steinberger G3 electric guitar and just plucking at the strings as a toddler. My dad has a pretty grand CD & record collection, and we used to listen to all the classic rock icons on our many road trips out to the country or to the gulf. I grew up listening to The Beatles, David Bowie, T Rex, Harry Nilsson, and many more great & obscure artists. I feel this music foundation has set a really high bar in my musical tastes, and my own creations. These artists were story tellers & knew how to really connect with the audience through beautiful, out-of-the-box expressions with their music.

I was enrolled in a School Of Rock camp when I was 17-18 years old. This was like an organized band of kids ranging from about 9-18 and we would perform our shows at local venues around Austin. Here is where I started feeling more passionate about music & singing in particular. The instructors in the class gave me praise & encouragement which helped me gain more confidence. I’ll never forget our Rolling Stones show where I sang my rendition of “Wild Horses”. After the show, a burley good-lo-boy man came up to me and told me I brought tears to his eyes. It was the first time I realized the power of the music. I poured my heart & soul into this song, and to have someone else connect with that is the most beautiful feeling.

In college I wrote a handful of songs, but didn’t perform them out until a year after graduating in a small little Greek Cafe. From there I began playing my acoustic shows in small restaurants and venues. A standing gig in the Austin-classic annex bar of Z’Tejas is where I really honed in my acoustic set with my Taylor guitar & Fender Stratocaster. I met many a producer over the years and started experimenting in other electronic styles.

My partnership with PCGiii was the beginning of my electronic experimentation. I think we came up with the genre “Acid Lounge” for our music, which had kind of a grungier edge to it. Our song “Animal" was released on XXXXX. We have plans to continue releasing singles.

My partnership with Dancinatra has been a more serious project. The style is electronica with R&B influence. We have performed in bigger venues in Austin like Swan Dive, Hotel Vegas, Spider House Ballroom and Empire. (Songs soon to be available online).

My partnership with D Madness (local Austin Funk God) & Rudy Eccles (Bass guru) was to create my first EP that is the music which most reflects my singing capabilities, and this is when my concept of Soulingo was born. That is the name of the EP (soon to be available online).

My NuBu project is my moniker I use with my house music vocals. Songs include “Little Humans released on xxxxxx, “On My Own” released by P.U.N.C.H.I.S. , and “Hide’ released by Denied Music. Nobu has performed in the best dance clubs in Austin like Ethics Music Lounge, Plush, & Vinyl
